12 September,2025-Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13, marking his first trip to the state since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The conflict has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands, leaving a deep humanitarian crisis.
During his visit, PM Modi will travel to both Churachandpur, a Kuki-majority district, and Imphal, the Meitei-majority capital. In Churachandpur, he is scheduled to meet internally displaced persons (IDPs) and inaugurate major infrastructure projects. In Imphal, he will oversee the completion of development works, including roads, highways, drainage systems, and an infotech initiative.
Authorities have announced projects worth approximately ₹8,500 crore across the two districts, with ₹7,300 crore allocated to Churachandpur and ₹1,200 crore for Imphal. Key projects include upgrades to National Highways 102A and 202, a new state police headquarters, and initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and public services.
Despite these developments, critics have expressed concern that the visit may be largely symbolic, highlighting the need for more comprehensive measures to address rehabilitation, justice, and reconciliation for affected communities. Displaced families continue to face challenges returning home, and social tensions remain high.
The Prime Minister’s visit comes nearly two years after the initial outbreak of violence, and its success will be measured by the tangible impact on local communities, their safety, and the restoration of social harmony.
