Mithun Manhas Elected Unopposed as 37th BCCI President

Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been unanimously elected as the 37th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), marking a historic moment in Indian cricket administration. The decision was confirmed during the 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI held in Mumbai on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

Manhas succeeds Roger Binny, who stepped down after completing his tenure upon reaching the BCCI’s age cap limit. This makes Manhas the third consecutive former cricketer to hold the prestigious position, following Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny, reflecting a continued trend of cricketing veterans leading the board.

At 45 years old, Manhas brings a wealth of experience both on and off the field. A distinguished domestic cricketer, he represented Delhi for over two decades and captained the side to multiple victories in the Ranji Trophy. Post-retirement, Manhas has contributed to Indian cricket as a coach, mentor, and administrator, gaining respect for his deep understanding of the game and commitment to nurturing talent.

During the AGM, Manhas expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and outlined his vision for Indian cricket. “It’s an honour to serve Indian cricket in this capacity. My focus will be on strengthening grassroots development, enhancing domestic tournaments, and ensuring India’s continued dominance in world cricket,” he said.

Analysts note that Manhas’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Indian cricket, as the sport undergoes rapid evolution with new formats, technologies, and talent pipelines emerging. His leadership is expected to emphasise a balanced approach, ensuring both competitive excellence and sustainable growth of the game.

Roger Binny, outgoing BCCI President, congratulated Manhas and praised his contributions to Indian cricket. “Mithun’s passion for the game and his administrative insight make him an excellent choice for the role. I wish him success in steering Indian cricket forward,” Binny said.

With the BCCI playing a pivotal role in global cricket governance and the sport’s growth in India, Manhas’s presidency is seen as a continuation of a transformative era. His tenure will be closely watched by cricketing enthusiasts, players, and stakeholders alike.
