Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has highlighted the rapid growth of India’s electronics manufacturing sector, describing it as a key driver for employment generation in the coming years. Speaking recently at an industry event, the minister emphasised that sustained government support and a robust ecosystem are transforming the sector into a major pillar of India’s economic growth.
According to Vaishnaw, the electronics manufacturing industry currently employs approximately 2.5 million people, a figure that is set to rise significantly. “India is no longer just an assembly hub. We are building a comprehensive ecosystem that includes design, innovation, and advanced manufacturing capabilities,” the minister said.
The government’s proactive measures, particularly the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, have been instrumental in attracting both domestic and foreign investment. These initiatives are designed to enhance India’s capacity to manufacture electronic goods and reduce dependency on imports.
The National Policy on Electronics has further strengthened this push. It focuses on increasing domestic production and fostering an environment conducive to technological advancement. The creation of Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) provides infrastructure and logistical support to manufacturers, helping India emerge as a competitive player in the global electronics industry.
