Google has announced a monumental $15 billion investment to establish its first artificial intelligence (AI) hub in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The AI hub will feature a 1-gigawatt data center, making it one of Google’s most significant infrastructure projects outside the United States. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a new international subsea gateway, connecting Visakhapatnam to global networks and bolstering the nation’s digital connectivity.
Google’s partnership with the Adani Group and Airtel is instrumental in this venture. The collaboration aims to establish a state-of-the-art Cable Landing Station (CLS) and an expanded fiber-optic network, facilitating seamless data transmission and reinforcing India’s position as a digital powerhouse.
The AI hub is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for Andhra Pradesh. According to state officials, the project will create approximately 5,000–6,000 direct jobs and an estimated 20,000–30,000 indirect jobs, contributing significantly to the local economy. The initiative is also projected to generate around ₹10,000 crore in revenue for the state. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted that the AI hub represents a transformative step for India’s digital economy. He emphasized the project’s role in advancing AI-driven infrastructure, promoting clean energy, and creating high-value employment opportunities across the country.
The establishment of the AI hub aligns with India’s vision to become a global leader in digital innovation.
