President Droupadi Murmu Joins Grand Chhath Puja Rituals; CM Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Maurya Lead Festivities in UP and Bihar

In a vibrant display of devotion and cultural unity, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the Chhath Puja ceremonies at the President’s Estate in New Delhi, offering arghya (water offering to the setting sun) alongside devotees. Simultaneously, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya attended major celebrations in Patna, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined devotees in Lucknow to mark the four-day festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.

The four-day Chhath Puja, celebrated primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, holds immense cultural and spiritual significance. President Murmu’s participation at the President’s Estate emphasized the festival’s growing national resonance and its message of faith, purity, and gratitude toward nature. In her greetings, she extended best wishes to citizens, highlighting the importance of respecting natural resources and maintaining harmony with the environment.

In Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Maurya’s presence in Patna underscored the festival’s deep-rooted connection with the state’s traditions. Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s participation in Lucknow reflected the festival’s expanding reach and cultural inclusivity across regions.

This year, Chhath Puja has also witnessed a notable economic boost, generating an estimated ₹38,000 crore in trade across India. The surge in sales of ritual items such as baskets, sugarcane, earthen lamps, fruits, and sweets has revitalized local markets and small businesses, making the festival both a spiritual and economic occasion.

State administrations have intensified preparations to ensure smooth celebrations. Ghats (riverbanks) have been cleaned and decorated for the Sandhya Arghya and Usha Arghya rituals. Security personnel and volunteers have been deployed for crowd management, while special transportation arrangements have been made to assist devotees traveling to various sites.

Beyond the rituals, Chhath Puja symbolizes unity and environmental awareness. Observed by people across caste, religion, and region, the festival stands as a powerful expression of communal harmony. President Murmu’s message echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Chhath promotes gratitude, sustainability, and cooperation — values that bind the nation together.

As Chhath Puja 2025 continues, the participation of President Droupadi Murmu, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, and CM Yogi Adityanath highlights the festival’s enduring spiritual importance and growing national prominence. With its blend of devotion, environmental respect, and economic vitality, Chhath Puja has evolved into a celebration of India’s collective faith and cultural unity — illuminating the strength of traditions that continue to inspire generations.
