The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four cricketers—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri—following allegations of match-fixing during the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The ACA has also lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Crime Branch in Guwahati.
According to the ACA, the suspended players attempted to influence members of the current Assam team during the SMAT tournament held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8, 2025. The board acted after a preliminary enquiry by the BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) found prima facie evidence of misconduct.
“The players are suspended with immediate effect. Further disciplinary and legal actions will follow as per regulations,” ACA secretary Sanatan Das said in a statement.
Key details of the suspension:
- Barred from participating in any state-level matches or tournaments.
- Restricted from coaching, umpiring, or any cricket-related roles until investigations conclude.
All four players have represented Assam across various domestic formats. While Thakuri appeared in two recent Ranji Trophy matches, Amit Sinha has a longer domestic career spanning multiple formats.
The incident raises concerns about the integrity of domestic cricket and the vulnerability of players to corrupt approaches, particularly in high-stakes T20 tournaments. Experts suggest this case may prompt stricter monitoring, education, and preventive measures against corruption in domestic cricket.
The ACA has assured that the investigation will proceed with transparency, and any disciplinary measures will follow legal and cricketing protocols. The suspended players now face possible bans and legal consequences under the FIR.
