New Delhi, May 21, 2025 — In a significant boost to India’s two-wheeler export industry, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has reported that the Honda Navi has become the country’s most exported scooter, marking a remarkable turnaround for a model once discontinued in the domestic market. The mini-bike-styled scooter has found resounding success overseas, particularly in North and Latin America.

According to the latest data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Honda Navi led India’s scooter export charts in FY 2024–25, with over 75,000 units shipped globally. This surge has helped HMSI solidify its standing as a key contributor to India’s growing two-wheeler export footprint.


From Domestic Discontinuation to Global Acclaim

Launched in India in 2016, the Honda Navi carved a niche for itself with its unconventional motorcycle-scooter hybrid design. However, due to subdued domestic demand, it was phased out from the Indian market in 2019. Nonetheless, HMSI continued production for export, recognizing its strong appeal in international markets.

Countries like the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia have embraced the Navi as a cost-effective, fun, and reliable urban mobility solution. In the U.S., the Navi is marketed as an entry-level scooter ideal for first-time riders, offering ease of use and maintenance at an affordable price point.


Export-Only Production Strategy

The Honda Navi is now exclusively manufactured at HMSI’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, which serves as a major export hub. This facility enables the company to meet international regulatory standards while tailoring the Navi for different markets. The model retains its 109.19cc engine, CVT gearbox, and motorcycle-style chassis, offering a unique alternative to conventional scooters.

With growing global demand for compact two-wheelers and sustainable transport, the Navi fits well into the niche of affordable, lightweight, and easy-to-handle scooters. It appeals especially to urban commuters seeking practicality and fuel efficiency.
