Yamaha Motor India has recently unveiled the FZ-S Fi Hybrid, an innovative addition to its acclaimed FZ series aimed at delivering better fuel efficiency and enhanced performance for urban commuters. This new 150cc motorcycle incorporates mild-hybrid technology, designed to appeal to riders seeking eco-friendly and economical daily transportation.

At the heart of the FZ-S Fi Hybrid is a 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine capable of generating 12.4 PS of power at 7,250 rpm and 13.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The highlight of the bike is its Smart Motor Generator (SMG), a mild-hybrid system that supplements engine power during acceleration. This results in smoother starts and improved fuel efficiency, particularly beneficial in stop-and-go city traffic.

Further advancing its green credentials, the motorcycle features Yamaha’s Start and Stop System (SSS), which automatically switches off the engine when the bike is idle and restarts it once the clutch is engaged. This mechanism reduces fuel consumption and lowers emissions, aligning with the growing environmental awareness among riders.

In terms of design, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid preserves the muscular streetfighter aesthetic typical of the FZ series, enhanced with contemporary touches such as a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display. This smart console integrates with the Y-Connect app, allowing users to access phone notifications, battery status updates, and the last parked location directly from the dashboard.

Safety features are comprehensive, with single-channel ABS and traction control included as standard, underscoring Yamaha’s commitment to rider protection. The bike is offered in attractive color options like Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey, complemented by LED lighting and stylish alloy wheels that reinforce its aggressive look.

On the performance front, the hybrid system provides a noticeable boost during initial throttle inputs, improving agility and overtaking capabilities in congested urban environments. Early mileage figures suggest the bike can achieve approximately 60 kilometers per liter, positioning it as an economical choice for regular commuters.

However, the bike is primarily built for city riding, as engine vibrations become more noticeable at speeds above 90 km/h, which may affect comfort during longer highway journeys.

Ergonomically, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid provides an upright riding stance with moderately cushioned seating, suitable for daily commuting. While comfortable for shorter trips, the rear suspension’s firmness may be felt on extended rides.

Priced at ₹1,44,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the hybrid variant carries a premium compared to its non-hybrid predecessor. Yamaha asserts that this price increase is justified by the advanced hybrid technology, improved fuel economy, and enhanced connectivity features.

In summary, Yamaha’s FZ-S Fi Hybrid represents a significant step toward hybrid mobility in the Indian commuter motorcycle market. It offers practical benefits to riders focused on efficiency and technology, making it an appealing option for those prioritizing everyday usability over high-speed performance.
