The weekly spike marks a sudden increase in infections, raising concerns among health officials who have initiated enhanced monitoring and testing across key locations in the city. Officials confirmed that most patients have shown mild or no symptoms, and no serious hospitalisations have been reported as of now.
Sources in the health department indicated that the uptick may be linked to seasonal factors and declining adherence to safety protocols. While genome sequencing is underway to identify any new variant, preliminary assessments suggest that the infections are predominantly caused by Omicron sub-lineages.
In response to the surge, the Delhi government has intensified contact tracing, surveillance, and testing, particularly in high-density and vulnerable areas. Random RT-PCR testing has been resumed at airports, railway stations, and metro hubs.
Hospitals have been instructed to stay alert and ensure the availability of beds and oxygen supplies, although the current situation remains under control. The health department has not issued any new restrictions but has urged citizens to wear masks in crowded areas and observe basic hygiene protocols.
Public advisories have been issued for elderly individuals, immunocompromised persons, and those with co-morbidities to exercise caution. Authorities have reiterated that vaccination, including booster doses, remains a key line of defense against the virus.
As of now, no containment zones have been declared, and all public services, including schools and transport, continue to operate as normal.
