Mumbai is expected to witness heavy showers today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather alert for the city and surrounding areas. This advisory, valid through May 29, warns residents to be prepared for periods of intense rain accompanied by strong winds and possible thunderstorms.
The forecast indicates overcast conditions with intermittent heavy rainfall throughout the day. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised people living in flood-prone and low-lying localities to stay alert and take necessary precautions against waterlogging and related disruptions.
In light of the rain prediction, the BMC has postponed a planned 13-hour water supply suspension scheduled for today. This move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted water access during the expected downpours.
Additionally, the IMD’s seasonal outlook suggests that Maharashtra is likely to receive above-average rainfall this monsoon season, with precipitation expected to exceed the long-term average by approximately six percent. This increase could have significant effects on agriculture, water management, and urban infrastructure in the state.
Officials are closely monitoring the weather situation and have activated emergency response teams to manage any potential flood or traffic-related issues. Citizens are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel, stay informed through official updates, and promptly report emergencies.
As Mumbai braces for heavy rain, cooperation between authorities and the public will be crucial in minimizing disruptions and maintaining safety.
