Pune, May 30, 2025 — The Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune became a center of vibrant spiritual activity as it observed Sheshatmaj Ganesh Jayanti with a visually striking floral arrangement symbolizing Sheshnag, the celestial serpent. Organized collaboratively by the temple trust and Suvarnayug Tarun Mandal, the event drew large crowds of devotees and cultural enthusiasts.

This year’s theme showcased an artistic portrayal of Lord Ganesha seated within a coiled, multi-headed serpent made entirely of fresh, colorful flowers. The design was inspired by the Sheshatmaj form of Ganesha, an incarnation deeply revered within certain Hindu traditions for its mythological role in restoring cosmic order.

According to religious lore, this incarnation emerged during a time of turmoil in the underworld. A powerful being, born from divine forces, wreaked havoc across realms. In response to prayers from the serpent deity Shesh, Lord Ganesha is believed to have appeared in his Sheshatmaj form, empowered by blessings from major deities. Riding a divinely gifted mouse, Ganesha defeated the chaos-inducing demon, thereby restoring harmony.

The celebrations began in the early hours of the morning with a ceremonial water offering and chanting of sacred verses. These rituals were led by temple priests and accompanied by a spiritual music session that featured devotional vocals by a noted classical artist. The day progressed with religious recitations, fire rituals, and offerings made by devotees who had gathered from different parts of the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Rasane, president of the temple trust, emphasized the importance of this observance. “This day is a major event for followers of Ganpatya traditions. It marks a divine manifestation of Lord Ganesha that reflects strength, protection, and wisdom. It is equally significant as other well-known Ganesh festivals celebrated during the year.”

The floral décor, which served as the centerpiece of the celebration, was appreciated not only for its artistic excellence but also for its spiritual symbolism. The use of natural materials and precise detailing gave the shrine a radiant, festive aura, reinforcing the sanctity of the occasion.

Devotees engaged in the ceremonies throughout the day, offering prayers and participating in the evening aarti that concluded the celebration. Many expressed a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment and praised the organizers for presenting such a meaningful and visually inspiring tribute to Lord Ganesha.

As the temple continues its efforts to preserve traditional rituals while introducing innovative themes, this year’s Sheshatmaj Ganesh Jayanti stood out as a perfect blend of devotion, mythology, and community participation.
