Nashik, June 2, 2025 — The Maharashtra government has formally announced the schedule for the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, a major Hindu religious event that draws millions of devotees from India and around the world. The sacred gathering is set to begin on October 31, 2026, with a ceremonial flag hoisting at Ramkund in Panchavati, and will continue until July 24, 2028.
As part of the ritual calendar, three significant Shahi Snan (royal holy bath) dates have been finalized. The first will take place on August 2, 2027, followed by the second on August 31, 2027, and the third on September 11, 2027. These bathing rituals, considered highly auspicious, will be conducted in both Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, where the Godavari River plays a central role in spiritual purification rites.
The Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years in Nashik, is one of the four rotational locations of this ancient tradition, the others being Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Ujjain. According to Hindu belief, this sacred festival marks the divine moment when celestial drops of Amrit (nectar of immortality) fell at these sites during a cosmic battle, making them spiritually powerful.
To ensure the event’s smooth execution, the Maharashtra government has launched extensive preparations. Infrastructure development is a key focus, with an estimated investment exceeding ₹6,000 crore. Projects include the construction of modern sewage treatment plants, road and bridge expansion, improved sanitation systems, and upgraded accommodation facilities for pilgrims and ascetics.
The municipal authorities in Nashik have also proposed comprehensive urban development plans aimed at managing the expected influx of visitors. Temporary settlements, known as Sadhugrams, will be set up for saints and spiritual leaders, while safety measures such as crowd control, medical emergency services, and disaster response units are being prioritized.
Culturally, the event will feature a range of religious and spiritual activities, including Nagar Pradakshina (processions), devotional music performances, and discourses by revered saints and scholars. The arrival of various Akharas and Naga Sadhus will add to the unique spiritual atmosphere, showcasing a blend of devotion, discipline, and tradition.
The state administration has emphasized its commitment to creating a safe, sustainable, and spiritually uplifting experience for attendees. Eco-friendly initiatives, including river conservation and waste management systems, are being integrated into the planning process.
With preparations already underway and dates now confirmed, the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 is expected to be one of the most significant religious events of the decade, reinforcing India’s rich spiritual legacy on the global stage.
