Lucknow, June 3 — Rajeev Shukla, the current Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will become the interim president after Roger Binny retires on July 19, as per the board’s age policy.
Shukla addressed recent speculation about his appointment, calling such discussions “pointless” and confirming that the change will follow the BCCI’s established rules. He promised to handle the role responsibly during the transition.
This will be the first time someone from Uttar Pradesh leads the BCCI, a development welcomed by the state’s cricket body.
Shukla has a background in journalism and politics, having served in the Rajya Sabha and held a ministerial position. He has also been actively involved in cricket administration, including leading the Indian Premier League (IPL).
With major tournaments like the Asia Cup approaching, Shukla’s leadership is expected to provide stability until elections are held later this year.
BCCI regulations require officials to step down at age 70, leading to Binny’s retirement and Shukla’s interim role. He will oversee the board’s operations and represent Indian cricket during this period.
The cricket community views this smooth handover as important for maintaining continuity.
