New Delhi, June 4, 2025 — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sparked a political dispute after accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of conceding Indian land to China amid ongoing border tensions. Gandhi’s comments have drawn strong criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which defended the government’s efforts to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.
During a recent press briefing, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the government’s approach toward the disputed border areas, especially along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, reflected a weak stance. He alleged that the Prime Minister had effectively allowed Chinese advances, compromising India’s sovereignty.
This statement followed reports of increased Chinese infrastructure activities near sensitive border regions, fueling concerns about India’s border security. Gandhi urged the administration to provide more detailed information on the actions being taken to address these developments.
The BJP promptly rejected these accusations. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra described Gandhi’s remarks as misleading and damaging to the morale of India’s armed forces. He emphasized the bravery and dedication of Indian soldiers in defending the country’s frontiers.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur also condemned the opposition leader’s comments, stating that politicizing security matters is inappropriate and undermines national unity. “National security should never be a subject of political point-scoring,” he said.
Analysts note that Gandhi’s remarks are part of a broader political strategy as parties gear up for forthcoming elections. However, experts warn that turning sensitive security issues into political fodder risks eroding public confidence in the country’s defense mechanisms.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its commitment to peacefully resolving the border dispute through diplomatic negotiations while maintaining India’s territorial claims.
With tensions along the India-China border continuing, debates over the government’s foreign policy and national security strategy are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
