Speeding car hits police in Patna

Patna, June 12: A woman constable was among three police personnel injured after being hit by a speeding car near the Income Tax roundabout in Patna on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred when the police team was conducting routine checks at a traffic checkpoint.

According to officials, the vehicle involved in the incident, a white sedan, did not stop despite being signaled by the police and rammed into the personnel. The injured officers, including woman constable Shikha Kumari, were immediately taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. Hospital authorities stated that all three injured personnel are in stable condition but sustained serious injuries.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra confirmed that the car was intercepted shortly after the incident. Two male passengers inside the vehicle were arrested and are currently being interrogated. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused may have been under the influence of alcohol. Their blood samples have been sent for forensic testing.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rash driving, assault on public servants, and endangering life. The vehicle has been seized for further examination.

The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of police personnel deployed on roads. The Bihar Police Association condemned the attack and called for stricter action against offenders involved in reckless driving and assault on law enforcement.

Traffic officials and public safety advocates have urged the administration to improve road safety measures and ensure better protection for officers on field duty. They also demanded the installation of additional surveillance cameras and speed-monitoring devices at key junctions across the city.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
