Ahmedabad, June 14 — The Government of India has launched a formal investigation into the recent crash involving an Air India Dreamliner aircraft in Ahmedabad. The incident occurred earlier this week when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating a scheduled domestic flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi, experienced technical difficulties shortly after takeoff, resulting in a hard landing.
According to initial reports, the aircraft encountered a sudden system malfunction, forcing pilots to initiate emergency procedures. While there were no fatalities, several passengers and crew members sustained minor injuries. The aircraft suffered significant damage and has since been grounded for inspection.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the cause of the crash. The committee includes experts from the DGCA, Air India, and Boeing. The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder have been recovered and are currently being analyzed.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan confirmed that the probe would be thorough and transparent. “The safety of passengers is paramount. A detailed inquiry has been initiated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” he said during a press briefing in New Delhi.
The DGCA has also issued an advisory to all Indian carriers operating Boeing 787 aircraft, instructing them to conduct immediate technical inspections, particularly focusing on the aircraft’s automated flight control systems. Officials noted that while the exact cause of the malfunction is yet to be determined, early indications point towards a possible fault in the aircraft’s software or electrical systems.
This incident comes at a crucial time for Air India, which is undergoing a fleet modernization and safety upgrade under Tata Group’s leadership. Aviation analysts have expressed concerns that the crash could impact public perception of the airline’s reliability, especially as it expands operations both domestically and internationally.
The preliminary report of the investigation is expected within two weeks, with the final findings to be released subsequently. Passengers affected by the incident have been provided medical assistance and compensation, while the airline has assured full cooperation with the investigation.
Meanwhile, airport authorities in Ahmedabad have increased surveillance and technical monitoring of departing flights as a precautionary measure.
As the investigation progresses, the aviation industry and general public await answers, with expectations that the outcome will lead to strengthened safety protocols and enhanced regulatory oversight.
