June 17, 2025 — Katraj Dairy has raised the price of its milk products by ₹2 per litre, citing a consistent rise in the cost of production and logistics. The revised prices took effect on Tuesday and apply to all milk variants distributed under the Katraj label.
As per the new pricing, full-cream milk will now cost ₹60 per litre, toned milk will be priced at ₹50 per litre, and double-toned milk will be sold at ₹48 per litre.
According to officials from the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., which manages the Katraj brand, increasing expenses related to cattle feed, electricity, fuel, and packaging have made the adjustment unavoidable. The cooperative stated that the revision aims to ensure continued support to dairy farmers and maintain stable milk supply across the region.
“With input costs rising steadily, this decision helps us continue offering fair compensation to our member farmers while keeping operations viable,” a senior representative of the dairy said.
Katraj Dairy collects milk from over 1.5 lakh farmers in and around Pune, making it one of the key players in the local dairy economy. The cooperative emphasized that the price hike is aimed at balancing farmer welfare with customer service and product quality.
Local consumers have shared mixed opinions on the hike. While some have acknowledged the economic pressures facing the dairy industry, others expressed worry about the added financial burden on daily expenses. “Even a slight increase affects our monthly planning, especially for larger families,” said a resident of Pune.
This revision follows similar price increases by other major dairies across the country in recent months. Sector analysts say the move reflects broader challenges faced by the dairy industry, including higher raw material prices and inconsistent fodder availability due to changing climate conditions.
Dr. Meenal Patankar, a dairy industry expert, remarked, “Price hikes like these point to the growing strain on dairy supply chains. It’s important to explore long-term cost control strategies and policy support to make the sector more resilient.”
Despite the price adjustment, Katraj Dairy has assured customers that there will be no compromise on quality or service. The organization is reportedly working on efficiency improvements to manage costs more effectively in the future.
Consumers can expect the new pricing to be applicable at all retail points, delivery networks, and outlets linked with Katraj Dairy starting this week.
