In a major push to improve educational outcomes and reduce financial pressure on families, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced an annual assistance of ₹15,000 for every child enrolled in school. This initiative is a part of the expanded Amma Vodi scheme and aims to make education more accessible across the state.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy made the official announcement, stating that the financial assistance will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of mothers or guardians of school-going children. The scheme is applicable to students studying in both government and private institutions, broadening its impact across different socio-economic groups.
The state administration has allocated a budget of approximately ₹6,500 crore for this purpose during the ongoing academic year. With this expansion, more than 43 lakh students are expected to benefit from the scheme. The assistance is intended to help families cover costs such as uniforms, books, transportation, and other educational needs.
The Chief Minister highlighted that this initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improve literacy rates and promote inclusive education. Alongside Amma Vodi, schemes like Jagananna Vidya Kanuka (which offers school kits) and Nadu-Nedu (which modernizes school infrastructure) are being implemented to create a better learning environment.
Education experts believe this direct benefit approach will lead to improved attendance, especially in remote and rural areas where affordability remains a major barrier. However, they also emphasize the importance of ensuring educational quality through teacher training and updated curricula.
Parents have welcomed the scheme, saying that the financial support comes as a relief in managing growing school-related expenses. Many believe it will help ensure continuity in their children’s education without frequent dropouts due to economic hardship.
