June 25 — A record 27,146 units of blood were collected during a nationwide donation drive held on the occasion of industrialist Gautam Adani’s birthday. Organized by the Adani Foundation, the annual initiative has grown significantly since its inception in 2011, when it began with just 1,400 units.
The 2025 edition of the drive was conducted across more than 600 locations in India, with thousands of Adani Group employees, volunteers, and members of the public participating. According to the foundation, this year’s collection marks one of the highest voluntary blood contributions recorded in the country on a single day.
Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, said, “Blood donation is a life-saving act, and we are proud to see so many people come forward to support this cause. What started as a humble initiative in 2011 has now become a movement for national impact.”
The initiative aims to help bridge the critical gap in India’s blood supply. As per government health data, India requires close to 13 million units of blood annually but continues to face a shortfall of 1 to 1.5 million units. Drives like these are crucial in ensuring availability of blood for medical emergencies, surgeries, and for patients suffering from conditions like thalassemia and cancer.
The campaign also witnessed strong engagement on social media, with the hashtag #AdaniBloodDonationDrive trending across platforms. Participants shared photos and videos from various locations, encouraging others to become regular donors.
This year’s figures represent nearly a 20-fold increase in participation and collection since the campaign began. The blood units collected have been handed over to government and private hospitals, blood banks, and NGOs working in the health sector.
Health ministry officials praised the Adani Foundation for its consistent efforts toward public health. “Such large-scale voluntary efforts not only meet critical medical needs but also raise awareness about the importance of regular blood donation,” said a senior official.
The Adani Foundation, the CSR arm of the Adani Group, is engaged in a range of social development projects in sectors such as healthcare, education, and rural livelihood. The annual blood donation drive remains one of its most impactful health initiatives.
With the success of the 2025 drive, the Foundation has reiterated its commitment to expanding the initiative in the years to come. “We hope to reach more cities and remote areas, and inspire more people to come forward,” said a spokesperson.
The campaign continues to set an example of how corporate social responsibility, when implemented consistently, can lead to meaningful and lasting impact on public health.
