Centre Approves ₹10,637 Crore Projects for J&K; CM Omar Thanks PM Modi

Centre approves J&K projects

June 25 – The Central Government has approved development projects worth ₹10,637 crore for Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant investment in the Union Territory’s infrastructure and economic revival. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the decision a “transformative step” for the region.

The approved projects span key sectors such as transport, energy, urban development, and water supply. Officials said the move aims to accelerate growth and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, which has seen increased central funding following the revocation of Article 370.

“A new era of development has begun. We are thankful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for his continued support to Jammu and Kashmir,” said CM Omar Abdullah. “These projects will create jobs, boost the local economy, and address critical gaps in infrastructure.”

A major portion of the funds will be directed toward the improvement of road networks, including upgrades to National Highways and key rural routes. Power projects, particularly in the renewable energy sector, are also set to receive substantial support. In addition, urban renewal schemes for Srinagar and Jammu will be expanded, with a focus on waste management, public transport, and smart infrastructure.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, several drinking water projects in rural and remote areas are also part of the ₹10,637 crore package, ensuring piped water access to thousands of households.

Government sources said the funding is part of a broader strategy to integrate Jammu and Kashmir more closely into national development frameworks. Experts believe the initiative will not only improve infrastructure but also boost investor confidence and open up new economic opportunities in the region.

“This allocation is a major step toward addressing long-standing development challenges in J&K,” said a senior official in the Ministry of Home Affairs. “The Centre is committed to ensuring that the people of the Union Territory benefit from sustainable and inclusive growth.”

The announcement comes at a time when the Union Territory is witnessing increased focus from both public and private sectors, with infrastructure being seen as the backbone of future stability and prosperity.

CM Omar Abdullah also indicated that the state government will ensure timely implementation of all projects with full transparency and accountability.

“The responsibility now lies with us to make the best use of this opportunity and deliver real change on the ground,” he added.

The Centre’s approval is being viewed as a strong signal of its continued commitment to the development and integration of Jammu and Kashmir. Further details regarding the rollout and execution of the approved projects are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
