Indian students now comprise 42% of the total international student population in Dubai, according to recent data released by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). This significant figure highlights the increasing preference among Indian families for Dubai as a preferred destination for quality education abroad.
The KHDA report reveals that Indian students represent the largest international community in Dubai’s educational institutions, which cater to over 200 nationalities. The growing number is attributed to several key factors, including the availability of globally recognized curricula, geographic proximity to India, cultural familiarity, and a strong Indian diaspora presence.
Many Indian students are enrolled in private schools following the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) curricula. These schools have shown consistent growth in enrollment over the years. Alongside these, a considerable number of Indian students are also pursuing education under international boards such as the British and American systems, as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB).
In addition to school education, Indian students are increasingly enrolling in higher education institutions located in Dubai. Universities such as Amity University Dubai, Heriot-Watt University, and the University of Birmingham Dubai have seen a steady influx of students from India, attracted by globally competitive programs and industry-aligned courses.
Education experts note that favorable visa policies, including the UAE’s Golden Visa initiative for outstanding students, are playing a crucial role in this upward trend. These long-term residency benefits allow students to pursue education and career opportunities in the UAE without facing frequent visa renewals or limitations.
Cultural factors also contribute to the popularity of Dubai among Indian students. With a large Indian community, easy access to Indian cuisine, regular celebrations of Indian festivals, and a shared time zone, students and their families find the transition to life in Dubai smoother compared to more distant countries.
Dubai’s position as a regional education hub continues to grow, offering a blend of academic excellence, cultural inclusivity, and global exposure. With Indian students accounting for nearly half of the international student base, educational institutions in Dubai are increasingly tailoring programs and services to meet the expectations of this key demographic.
The data underscores the strengthening educational ties between India and the UAE, reflecting a broader shift in student mobility patterns and the emergence of Dubai as a global academic destination for Indian learners.
