Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honoured with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, the West African nation’s highest civilian award. The recognition comes as a mark of Ghana’s appreciation for Modi’s efforts in deepening diplomatic, economic, and development cooperation between the two countries.
The award was presented by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who highlighted the Indian Prime Minister’s leadership in promoting mutual growth and international collaboration. This rare honour underscores the strengthening ties between India and Ghana, particularly under Modi’s foreign policy framework that places a strong emphasis on partnerships with African nations.
Ghana acknowledged India’s extensive contributions in areas including healthcare, digital innovation, infrastructure, and capacity-building. Through financial support, educational exchanges, and technical assistance, India has played a pivotal role in several development projects across Ghana. One such initiative is the Pan-African e-network, which has helped improve access to education and healthcare services through digital platforms.
Over the past decade, bilateral relations between India and Ghana have witnessed significant progress. Trade between the two nations has grown steadily, and Indian businesses have invested in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and renewable energy in Ghana. Collaborative efforts in vocational training and entrepreneurship have also helped in skill development for Ghana’s youth.
President Akufo-Addo commended India’s development model, which is built on equal partnership and shared prosperity. He described the award as a tribute to the values of cooperation, trust, and people-centric governance promoted by Prime Minister Modi on the global stage.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in a formal statement, welcomed the honour, calling it a “proud moment for India” and a reflection of the country’s growing influence and goodwill across Africa. Officials noted that the recognition is also symbolic of the broader India-Africa relationship, which is based on mutual respect and a shared vision for sustainable growth.
This prestigious award joins a list of international accolades presented to Prime Minister Modi in recent years, including top civilian honours from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, France, Russia, and the United States.
As India continues to expand its diplomatic and developmental outreach to African nations, this recognition by Ghana reinforces New Delhi’s commitment to building strategic and inclusive global partnerships.
