July 29,2025:
Remona Evette Pereira, an undergraduate student at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, has achieved a place in the Golden Book of World Records by completing a 170-hour Bharatanatyam dance performance.
The performance began on July 21 in the university auditorium, where Pereira offered her first invocation to Lord Ganesha. Over the span of seven days, she continuously performed the classical Indian dance form, adhering to its traditional structures and expressions.
Officials from the Golden Book of World Records were present to observe and authenticate the attempt, which concluded successfully earlier this week. The event received steady public support, with university staff, students, and local residents attending in rotation.
Remona received guidance from her mentors and was assisted by a support team comprising musicians, coordinators, and medical personnel. The performance was carried out in compliance with guidelines set by the record-monitoring organization.
“This achievement highlights the importance of preserving and promoting India’s cultural heritage,” said a university spokesperson. “We are extremely proud of Remona’s perseverance and dedication.”
Pereira stated that the attempt was not just a personal goal but a way to honour Bharatanatyam’s spiritual and cultural significance. She credited her success to disciplined preparation and the support of her teachers and family.
The performance featured a wide range of Bharatanatyam elements, including intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and rhythmic coordination, demonstrating Pereira’s deep understanding of the classical tradition.
Art and culture enthusiasts, including several trained dancers and scholars, have praised the feat for its contribution to classical performing arts. Many noted that such efforts help renew interest in Indian dance forms among younger generations.
This record-setting performance has drawn national attention and is being hailed as a significant cultural moment for both the university and the city of Mangaluru.
