August 13, 2025: In the run-up to India’s 79th Independence Day, Jammu & Kashmir has been gripped by a remarkable wave of national pride, with thousands of residents turning out for Tiranga rallies and other patriotic events.
The Union Territory has embraced the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement with visible enthusiasm, as households, schools, and public offices prepare to hoist the national flag. In Doda district, the celebrations reached new heights with a record-length 1,508-metre tricolour, carried by students in a massive rally that drew cheering crowds along its route.
Srinagar also became a focal point for festivities, where a large-scale Tiranga march was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha alongside local leaders. The rally saw participation from a diverse mix of citizens — students, public servants, police personnel, and central security forces — all walking together in a display of unity.
Further south, Banihal hosted a spirited procession led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mohammad Naseeb Bajraan. The event featured strong participation from educational institutions and community groups, with organisers emphasising the importance of patriotism and collective harmony.
The Jammu Police South Zone added to the celebrations by organising an evening march under the leadership of senior officers, including DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar and SP South Ajay Sharma. Marchers carried the tricolour through the streets, accompanied by chants and patriotic songs.
Officials and organisers across the Union Territory have described these rallies as more than ceremonial gatherings — calling them a reaffirmation of the region’s commitment to national unity. As August 15 approaches, Jammu & Kashmir’s streets, schools, and marketplaces are already awash with saffron, white, and green, setting the stage for one of the most vibrant Independence Day celebrations in recent years.
