Amit Shah Hoists National Flag at Residence for ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Initiative

Amit Shah hoists Tricolour at Delhi residence

August 13, 2025 — Union Home Minister Amit Shah raised the Indian Tricolour at his official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, joining the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga initiative aimed at inspiring citizens to display the national flag at their homes in the lead-up to Independence Day.

Addressing the occasion, Shah said the campaign reflects the spirit of unity that binds the nation and strengthens the bond between citizens and their country. He called on people across India to participate by hoisting the flag from August 13 to 15, noting that such gestures reinforce patriotism and collective identity.

The Har Ghar Tiranga movement is part of the broader Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme, which celebrates India’s independence journey and honours those who contributed to the nation’s freedom. Introduced in 2022, the campaign has since become a large-scale public movement, drawing participation from schools, offices, and community groups.

To widen its reach, the government has set up an online platform where participants can mark their location on a virtual map and receive digital certificates. Organisers say the feature has particularly engaged younger generations, encouraging them to share their participation on social media.

By personally hoisting the Tricolour, the Home Minister underlined the flag’s symbolic value as a tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and a reminder of citizens’ responsibilities toward the nation’s progress.

With the 79th Independence Day approaching, the campaign is expected to see widespread participation, with the national flag prominently displayed across homes, marketplaces, and public spaces throughout the country.
