August 19, 2025: India is set to host the global para athletics championships for the first time, with the event scheduled from September 27 to October 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Preparations are underway to ensure the country delivers a world-class sporting experience for athletes from across the globe.
Officials confirmed that the tracks at both the main stadium and the adjacent training venue are being relaid to meet international standards. The upgrades aim to provide athletes with safe and high-quality surfaces for competition.
The championship is expected to draw top para athletes from several countries, competing in events such as sprints, middle-distance races, long jump, and shot put. Organizers anticipate participation from hundreds of athletes, highlighting India’s growing presence in the international para sports arena.
Speaking on the occasion, a representative of the Athletics Federation of India said, “Hosting this championship is a historic milestone for Indian para athletics. It allows our athletes to compete at the highest level on home soil and will encourage wider participation in para sports across the country.”
