August 22, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several major development projects worth around ₹13,000 crore in Gaya, Bihar, on Friday. The initiatives include the six-lane Aunta-Simaria bridge across the Ganga, the Buxar thermal power plant, a new cancer hospital, and the introduction of two additional trains to improve regional connectivity.
The Aunta-Simaria bridge, stretching 1.86 kilometers, was opened to replace the aging Rajendra Setu. The new bridge is expected to cut travel distances for heavy vehicles by more than 100 kilometers, easing the movement of goods and passengers between Mokama in Patna district and Simaria in Begusarai. Officials said the structure will play a key role in enhancing trade and transportation across North and South Bihar.
At the Buxar Thermal Power Plant, a 660 MW unit operated by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN) was commissioned. It is expected to supply roughly 85 percent of its output to Bihar, with the rest allocated to neighboring states. Authorities highlighted that the project will also generate employment opportunities for local communities.
In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new cancer hospital, designed to provide specialized treatment closer to home for patients in Bihar. The facility aims to reduce the need for residents to travel to distant cities for cancer care and forms part of a broader plan to strengthen medical infrastructure in the state.
Additionally, two new train services were flagged off to improve rail connectivity, benefiting both daily commuters and tourists visiting Bihar’s historical and religious sites. Officials noted that these services would facilitate smoother travel and support the region’s growing tourism sector.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that these projects reflect the government’s focus on infrastructure development, job creation, and improved public services. Observers called the ₹13,000 crore package a significant step toward Bihar’s long-term economic growth and regional development.
