August 2025 — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a gathering during his ongoing “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar, strongly criticized the alleged suppression of independent journalists, particularly those from the Bahujan community. He accused authorities of intimidating grassroots reporters and YouTubers who highlight issues concerning Dalits, minorities, and other marginalized groups.
Speaking before a large audience, Gandhi said that the space for independent media voices in India is shrinking. He alleged that journalists who refuse to align with mainstream narratives are being subjected to false cases and harassment, with many facing police scrutiny for their critical reporting. “When journalists from marginalized communities raise their voices for truth, they are silenced with threats and fabricated charges,” Gandhi remarked.
The Congress leader emphasized that the crackdown on Bahujan YouTubers and digital journalists reflects a deeper attempt to curb dissent and stifle alternative perspectives. According to him, these independent voices have gained significant popularity among the youth and rural audiences, providing narratives often overlooked by mainstream outlets.
