U.S. to Introduce $250 Visa Integrity Fee for Indian Travelers Starting October 2025

U.S. visa fee increase

1 September,2025: Indian travelers and other applicants from non-Visa Waiver Program countries will face a new $250 “Visa Integrity Fee” when applying for U.S. visas, starting October 1, 2025. The fee, part of the recently enacted “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” will be added on top of existing visa application charges, considerably raising the overall cost for Indian citizens.

The fee will apply to most non-immigrant visa categories, including tourist (B1/B2), student (F and M), and work visas (H-1B, L, O, P, R). Nationals of Visa Waiver Program countries, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany, are exempt from this additional payment.

U.S. officials have stated that the Visa Integrity Fee aims to strengthen security and improve the integrity of visa processing. The collected funds will support upgraded visa systems, advanced screening procedures, and enhanced administrative capabilities to manage the growing number of applications.

For Indian applicants, the fee represents a significant increase in the total cost of travel. Presently, visa application fees range from $160 to $190, depending on the visa type. With the new surcharge, the total cost for Indian citizens could exceed $400, making U.S. visas comparatively expensive for travelers from India. Industry analysts warn that the added financial burden may influence decisions among students, professionals, and tourists planning to visit the U.S.

Travel experts note that the fee may affect visitor trends from India, a key source of international travelers for the United States. “While enhancing visa security is important, this fee could deter some potential applicants, particularly students and young professionals,” said a senior travel consultant.

The timing of the announcement coincides with a slight decline in overseas travel to the U.S. In mid-2025, the number of international visitors dropped by over 3% compared to the previous year. With the Visa Integrity Fee in place, this trend may continue, particularly among travelers from countries facing higher visa costs.

The U.S. Department of State has confirmed that the fee will be collected at the time of visa issuance, along with the standard application fee. Travelers are advised to budget accordingly and plan their applications in advance to accommodate the additional charge.
