Ashadhi Wari Preparations Accelerate in Pimpri-Chinchwad; PCMC Reviews Palkhi Route and Amenities

Palkhi route Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri-Chinchwad, June 14, 2025 — As the revered Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage draws nearer, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has intensified its efforts to ensure a smooth and safe passage for thousands of Warkaris. Key officials from PCMC conducted a detailed review of the palkhi route, assessing road conditions, sanitation facilities, medical arrangements, and crowd management systems.

The Ashadhi Wari, one of Maharashtra’s most significant spiritual events, sees countless devotees embark on a foot journey to Pandharpur to honor Lord Vitthal. Among the major attractions of this pilgrimage are the palanquins of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, which pass through several towns and cities, including Pimpri-Chinchwad.

This year, the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi is expected to enter the city limits in the final week of June. Anticipating large gatherings, PCMC has launched an extensive plan focusing on road repairs, provision of clean drinking water, deployment of mobile toilets, and the setup of medical aid centers.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, accompanied by senior engineers and officials, visited key segments of the palkhi route in areas like Wakad, Sangvi, and Nashik Phata. The review included checking progress on resurfacing roads, installing street lights, setting up barricades, and ensuring signage for better navigation. Officials were directed to complete all pending work before the palkhi’s arrival to avoid any disruptions.

“Preparations are being carried out on a war footing. Ensuring the comfort, safety, and convenience of the Warkaris is a priority for the administration,” said Singh during a press briefing after the inspection. He also called for greater inter-departmental coordination and timely response from civic workers during the event.

In addition to infrastructure, PCMC is working closely with the police and emergency services to manage crowd control and maintain public safety. Special command centers and help desks will be set up along the route to provide assistance to pilgrims. Civic volunteers and local NGOs are also expected to support by distributing food, water, and first aid.

Local residents are actively contributing to the preparations, with many families preparing to set up rest stops and refreshment stalls for the devotees. This community participation adds a deeply rooted cultural and spiritual dimension to the event, strengthening social bonds across the city.

As the spiritual fervor of Ashadhi Ekadashi builds across Maharashtra, the Pimpri-Chinchwad region is making comprehensive preparations to welcome the Warkaris. With focused administrative planning, community support, and timely execution of civic duties, the city aims to ensure a respectful and seamless experience for all participants of this historic pilgrimage.
