July 29,2025: In a bid to improve road safety and encourage public participation in traffic regulation, the Delhi Police has introduced a new mobile application called Traffic Prahari. The app allows residents of the national capital to report traffic rule violations and receive financial rewards of up to ₹50,000 per month for valid and verified submissions.
The initiative seeks to address the rising number of road accidents in Delhi by involving the community directly in enforcement efforts. Through the app, users can upload images or videos capturing various types of traffic infractions, such as riding without a helmet, overspeeding, signal jumping, and using mobile phones while driving. Submitted evidence is reviewed by the traffic department, and successful reports that lead to challans make the sender eligible for incentive points.
Speaking on the launch, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.S. Yadav said the app is a step toward community-driven enforcement. “This platform encourages citizens to be proactive in ensuring road discipline. Our goal is to create a safer traffic environment with the support of Delhi’s residents,” he said.
Currently available for Android users, the Traffic Prahari app has seen a swift response from the public. In its first week, over 15,000 users registered, and more than 3,500 violations were reported. Several contributors have already received their initial reward credits.
Each complaint submitted via the app must be supported with clear visuals and should include geolocation and timestamp details. The traffic police have implemented a verification mechanism to ensure reports are genuine. Submissions found to be false or misleading may result in users being barred from the platform.
Delhi continues to grapple with high rates of road accidents, many of which stem from traffic rule violations. Data from recent years indicates a consistent need for enhanced enforcement and public awareness. The launch of Traffic Prahari is expected to supplement on-ground efforts by involving citizens as active participants in traffic management.
Experts in road safety have praised the move as an innovative approach to digital governance. By empowering citizens with a tool to report unsafe behavior on roads, authorities hope to reduce violations and promote responsible driving.
The Delhi Police is optimistic that this community-oriented initiative will lead to long-term improvements in traffic behavior and potentially serve as a model for similar efforts in other metropolitan areas.
