A recent video recording by a Scottish travel vlogger has brought fresh attention to the controversial case of Indian YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who is under investigation for alleged espionage activities. The video, captured in the bustling Anarkali Bazaar of Lahore, shows Malhotra walking through the market flanked by several armed men, heightening public curiosity and official scrutiny surrounding her visits to Pakistan.
Jyoti Malhotra, a native of Hisar in Haryana, India, gained popularity through her travel YouTube channel, which chronicled her cross-border experiences. However, what initially appeared to be cultural exploration has since taken a more sinister turn. On May 16, Indian authorities arrested Malhotra on suspicions of spying, alleging she maintained connections with Pakistan’s intelligence network.
In the now-viral footage, Malhotra is escorted by at least six men visibly armed with AK-47 rifles, their attire resembling that of paramilitary personnel. The group was seen maneuvering through a crowded marketplace, drawing attention from local vendors and passersby. The travel vlogger who filmed the interaction was reportedly surprised by the display of security, questioning the unusual level of protection granted to a foreign national.
Following her arrest, Indian law enforcement recovered significant amounts of digital data from Malhotra’s possession, including multiple smartphones and a laptop. Investigators disclosed that more than 13 terabytes of data are being analyzed for any links to classified or strategic information. Although no conclusive evidence has yet emerged connecting her to the unauthorized transmission of sensitive intelligence, she has reportedly acknowledged communication with individuals believed to be linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Sources suggest that Malhotra was in contact with a man named Danish, who was formerly stationed at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi and expelled on charges of espionage. It is alleged that this relationship may have played a role in facilitating her activities across the border under the guise of travel documentation.
The emergence of the Lahore video has reignited debates over the growing use of digital platforms as potential tools for espionage. Security analysts have raised concerns over how easily social media influencers can gain access to sensitive regions and institutions, often operating under the radar of conventional surveillance mechanisms.
Legal proceedings against Malhotra are ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine the breadth of her interactions and the content of her travels. As of now, she remains in judicial custody while further interrogations are conducted.
