Kawasaki Brings Back Versys-X 300 in India at ₹3.8 Lakh: A New Contender in Adventure Motorcycling

Kawasaki Versys-X 300

In a significant move for the adventure motorcycle segment, Kawasaki has reintroduced the Versys-X 300 in India, priced at ₹3.8 lakh (ex-showroom). The re-launch marks the brand’s renewed focus on touring motorcycles in the sub-400cc category, where it competes with models like the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and BMW G 310 GS.

A Comeback Aligned with Emission Norms

The Versys-X 300 was previously offered in the Indian market as a fully imported unit but was discontinued due to the enforcement of BS6 regulations and tepid demand. Now, the bike returns in 2025, fully compliant with BS6 Phase 2 standards, featuring upgrades that align with current environmental and performance expectations.

Powertrain and Performance Overview

The bike is powered by a 296cc parallel-twin engine that delivers 39 PS of maximum power at 11,500 rpm and 26.1 Nm of peak torque at 10,000 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, the engine is tuned for smooth acceleration and high-revving performance, catering to riders who enjoy both urban commutes and long-distance road trips.

Supporting its off-road capabilities, the motorcycle features a long-travel suspension setup—41mm telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock. It rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, fitted with dual-purpose tyres that enhance its ability to tackle mixed terrains.

Design and Rider Comfort

Kawasaki has built the Versys-X 300 with touring in mind. The bike comes with a sizable windscreen, semi-digital instrument console, and an upright, relaxed riding stance. It also features a 17-litre fuel tank, which is ideal for extended journeys without frequent fuel breaks.

Competitive Positioning

Though its price point places it slightly above some rivals, the Versys-X 300 distinguishes itself with a parallel-twin engine—something none of its closest competitors offer in this class. While the KTM 390 Adventure offers advanced electronics and the Himalayan 450 offers affordability and rugged design, the Versys-X 300 banks on refinement, smooth engine character, and Kawasaki’s strong brand appeal.

The KTM 390 Adventure is priced near ₹3.6 lakh, while the Himalayan 450 starts from ₹2.85 lakh. In comparison, Kawasaki’s offering is more premium but delivers a unique combination of smooth touring performance and reliability.

Launch Details and Market Expectations

The Versys-X 300 will be available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), with bookings now open at Kawasaki showrooms across India. Deliveries are set to begin from mid-June 2025.

Industry experts believe that the Versys-X 300 will cater to a specific group of enthusiasts looking for a dependable, refined machine suited for touring and light adventure riding. It may not match rivals on features or price, but its engine and brand strength could attract seasoned riders.

Final Thoughts

With the re-introduction of the Versys-X 300, Kawasaki is aiming to solidify its place in India’s mid-range adventure touring market. While it enters a segment filled with tough competition, its twin-cylinder setup and Kawasaki’s proven reliability could appeal to adventure riders seeking comfort, performance, and a hassle-free riding experience.
