Indore June 9, 2025 — A woman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested by Meghalaya Police on charges of planning her husband’s murder during their honeymoon in the East Khasi Hills region. The accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, was taken into custody days after her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead under suspicious circumstances near Sohra (Cherrapunji), a popular tourist destination in Meghalaya.
According to officials, the couple had recently tied the knot and traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. The situation escalated when Raja went missing on May 27. A few days later, his body was discovered in a forested area. Initial reports treated it as a case of disappearance, but subsequent developments revealed signs of a deliberate killing.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case. Investigators confirmed that a local guide, who had been refused work by the couple, provided crucial information that raised red flags. Based on his statement and CCTV footage, the police established that the couple was being followed by a vehicle suspected to be involved in the crime.
Further examination of Sonam’s mobile records and financial activity uncovered alleged communication with individuals suspected of carrying out the murder. According to police sources, Sonam is believed to have conspired with at least three people, two of whom have also been detained.
Sonam was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district and brought back to Meghalaya for further questioning. Senior police officials stated that she is being charged with murder and criminal conspiracy. “We have gathered evidence that supports our suspicions, including witness testimonies, digital records, and recovered items linked to the crime,” an officer involved in the investigation confirmed.
Although the motive has not been officially disclosed, investigators suspect a history of personal or financial disagreements may have played a role in the alleged conspiracy. Sonam’s family, meanwhile, has denied all allegations and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing the need for a neutral inquiry.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured the public that law enforcement agencies are handling the case with full diligence. “Justice will be delivered, and all angles are being examined thoroughly,” he stated during a press briefing.
As the investigation continues, the case serves as a grim reminder of how quickly moments of joy can turn into tragedy. Authorities are expected to file formal charges soon as they piece together the full scope of the alleged plot.
