In a bid to foster public participation and promote the ideals of sustainable mobility, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced a nationwide brand design competition for its upcoming eco-conscious infrastructure project, Harit Setu. The contest, open to citizens across India, offers a cash prize of up to ₹3 lakh for the winning entry.
The ‘Harit Setu’ initiative, a part of PCMC’s broader green urban development strategy, seeks to encourage non-motorized transport and connect key areas of the city via an elevated pedestrian and cycling corridor. The name, translating to ‘Green Bridge’, reflects the civic body’s vision of a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable transportation alternative.
According to a release issued by the PCMC Commissioner’s Office, the contest invites submissions of brand identity designs that will visually represent the project’s core values — sustainability, inclusiveness, accessibility, and urban innovation. The winning design will be adopted as the official branding of the project and will be displayed across all public communication platforms and on-site infrastructure.
Submissions Open Till June 30
Entries for the contest will be accepted until June 30, 2025, and can be submitted through the official PCMC website. The competition is open to individuals, students, creative professionals, and design firms. Participants are expected to present a holistic brand identity, including a logo, color palette, tagline, and visual style that best encapsulates the spirit of Harit Setu.
A jury panel comprising experts in the fields of urban planning, environmental design, transportation, and visual arts will be constituted to evaluate the submissions. The best entry will be awarded a cash prize of ₹3 lakh, with certificates of appreciation for notable contributions.
In his official statement, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Shekhar Singh remarked:
“Sustainable urban transport is the need of the hour. With ‘Harit Setu’, we aim to not only create infrastructure but also a movement towards clean mobility. Through this competition, we invite the youth and creative minds of our country to become part of this change.”
Step Towards a Greener Urban Future
The Harit Setu project is one among several initiatives by PCMC aimed at reducing the city’s carbon footprint. The civic body has previously undertaken projects such as riverfront beautification, smart bicycle lanes, and the promotion of electric vehicles under its Smart City mission.
Officials believe that involving citizens in the branding of such transformative projects will boost awareness and civic pride. It also aligns with national efforts under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to promote non-motorized transport and climate-conscious city planning.
Experts in the urban development sector have lauded PCMC’s move, citing that public involvement and a strong identity are vital for the success of large-scale mobility projects. “Branding is not merely cosmetic — it carries the power to influence public behavior and support,” said an official associated with the initiative.
Further information regarding the contest rules, evaluation criteria, and submission guidelines is available on the PCMC’s official digital platforms.
