PM Modi Flags Off Mega Infrastructure Drive Worth ₹13,430 Crore in Andhra Pradesh

PM Modi inaugurates Kurnool projects

On October 16, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a suite of development projects totalling ₹13,430 crore across Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The ambitious package spans crucial sectors including roads, railways, power, defence, petroleum, and natural gas, marking a concerted effort by the central government to accelerate regional infrastructure growth in Rayalaseema and beyond.

The projects unveiled encompass a broad spectrum of initiatives such as power transmission upgrades, industrial hubs, energy pipelines, transportation networks, and defence manufacturing facilities. In the energy sector, the Kurnool-III Pooling Station transmission project, valued at ₹2,880 crore, will involve a 765 kV double-circuit line between Kurnool-III and Chilakaluripeta, increasing transmission capacity by 6,000 MVA and reinforcing the grid’s ability to channel renewable energy efficiently.

In the industrial domain, foundation stones were laid for the Orvakal Industrial Area in Kurnool and the Kopparthy Industrial Area in Kadapa, with a combined allocation of approximately ₹4,920 crore. These plug-and-play industrial hubs are expected to attract large-scale investment of nearly ₹21,000 crore and generate over one lakh employment opportunities in the Rayalaseema region.

Transport infrastructure also received a major boost, with six road projects amounting to over ₹2,100 crore being flagged off to improve regional connectivity. Railway initiatives, including doubling and flyover works across key routes, aim to ease transportation bottlenecks and enhance freight and passenger movement in the state.

On the energy front, the Srikakulam–Angul natural gas pipeline, built at a cost of ₹1,730 crore, and an LPG bottling plant in Chittoor worth ₹200 crore were inaugurated to strengthen energy security and ensure wider accessibility in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Odisha.

In the defence sector, a new night vision products factory in Nimmaluru, Krishna district, worth ₹360 crore, was dedicated to the nation. The facility will manufacture advanced electro-optical systems for India’s armed forces, reinforcing the country’s goal of achieving greater self-reliance in defence production.

Addressing a large gathering in Kurnool, Prime Minister Modi praised the success of Operation Sindoor as a symbol of the strength of Indian-made products and lauded Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for their efforts in steering the state toward rapid development. The Prime Minister emphasised that the projects launched would not only enhance connectivity and industrial capacity but also open new avenues for employment and economic inclusion.

Meanwhile, the Rayalaseema Samithi urged the central government to fulfil its commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, including allocations for irrigation projects, judicial infrastructure, and environmental oversight for the backward districts of the region. Local representatives expressed hope that the current wave of investments would lead to tangible improvements in infrastructure and economic opportunities for the people of Rayalaseema.

The launch of ₹13,430 crore worth of projects in Kurnool represents a significant push by both the central and state governments to unlock the industrial and infrastructural potential of southern Andhra Pradesh. If implemented effectively, these initiatives could serve as a catalyst for regional growth, employment generation, and improved connectivity. However, experts point out that the success of these projects will depend on efficient execution, coordination between central and state agencies, and a sustained commitment to equitable development.
