PM Modi Inaugurates ₹8,260 Crore Projects in Dehradun, Envisions Uttarakhand as the “Spiritual Capital of the World”

PM Modi addresses Uttarakhand Foundation Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dehradun on Sunday, November 9, 2025, to attend the main function celebrating Uttarakhand’s 25th State Foundation Day. Marking the Silver Jubilee of the hill state’s formation, the Prime Minister unveiled a series of ambitious development projects worth ₹8,260 crore, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Uttarakhand’s infrastructure and spiritual heritage.

Addressing a large gathering at the Parade Ground in Dehradun, PM Modi lauded the people of Uttarakhand for their contribution to national progress and praised the state’s unique blend of natural beauty and cultural depth. He emphasized that Uttarakhand holds immense potential to emerge as the “spiritual capital of the world,” attracting pilgrims, seekers, and tourists from across the globe.

The development projects inaugurated and initiated by the Prime Minister span multiple sectors, including roads, railways, tourism, and urban development. Major initiatives include new highway projects to improve connectivity between remote hill districts and the plains, expansion of the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag rail line, and modernisation of the Dehradun airport. These projects aim to not only enhance accessibility but also create employment opportunities and boost the local economy.

PM Modi highlighted that the central government’s vision for Uttarakhand extends beyond infrastructure, focusing equally on cultural preservation and sustainable tourism. He reiterated that the “Viksit Bharat” mission can only be realized when states like Uttarakhand develop holistically—balancing modern growth with environmental protection. “The next 25 years are crucial,” Modi said. “Uttarakhand has both the strength of youth and the blessing of spirituality. Together, these can transform the state into a global beacon of peace and prosperity.”

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who accompanied the Prime Minister, expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continued support and stated that the government is working tirelessly to fulfill the vision of “Devbhoomi” as a model state. He added that the ₹8,260 crore worth of projects would accelerate Uttarakhand’s journey towards becoming a self-reliant and prosperous region.

The celebration also featured cultural performances showcasing the state’s rich heritage, traditional dances, and music from various districts. Thousands of residents, students, and dignitaries attended the event, turning it into a grand display of unity and pride.

As Uttarakhand marks 25 years since its creation in 2000, the Prime Minister’s message of combining spirituality with development resonated strongly with citizens. His vision seeks to position Uttarakhand not only as a hub for religious tourism but also as a model for sustainable mountain development—where tradition and progress coexist harmoniously.
