Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei has officially become the world’s longest-reigning living monarch, marking over 57 years on the throne. He surpassed the reigns of other global sovereigns following the recent transitions in various monarchies worldwide.
The Sultan, who ascended the throne on October 5, 1967, at the age of 21, continues to serve as both the head of state and government in the oil-rich Southeast Asian nation.
