Pune, June 5: In a significant development for Pune’s infrastructure, the Central Government has approved a ₹5,000 crore budget for the construction of a flyover between Hadapsar and Yavat. The project, aimed at reducing traffic congestion on the Pune-Solapur Highway (NH-65), will be undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-II.
The 30-kilometre-long elevated corridor is expected to drastically improve connectivity between Pune and the outer regions, including Loni Kalbhor, Manjari, Uruli Kanchan, and Yavat. With rapid urbanisation in these eastern suburbs, the daily traffic volume has significantly increased, resulting in frequent bottlenecks and delays.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed the sanction of funds for the project. He stated that the flyover will reduce travel time by up to 40% and improve road safety for thousands of daily commuters. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months from the start of construction.
“This flyover will not only provide relief to local residents but also boost trade and movement along the Pune-Hyderabad corridor,” Gadkari said.
The Hadapsar-Yavat stretch is part of the NH-65, a key national highway connecting Maharashtra and Telangana. The planned flyover will facilitate smoother intercity travel and play a crucial role in reducing the transportation load on existing road infrastructure.
The project will feature modern urban road elements, including smart traffic management systems, LED lighting, noise barriers, and designated lanes for two-wheelers and pedestrians. Once completed, it is expected to decongest one of Pune’s busiest routes and promote planned development in the region.
Local residents and regular commuters have welcomed the announcement, expressing optimism that the new flyover will provide long-term relief from traffic snarls. Experts have also highlighted the need for transparent land acquisition processes and environmental safeguards during construction.
The Hadapsar-Yavat flyover is part of a broader plan to modernise Pune’s transport network, which also includes the Pune Ring Road and Metro Phase-II. Authorities believe the project will help in transforming Pune into a more efficient and accessible urban centre.
The Centre’s approval of ₹5,000 crore for this critical infrastructure project marks a major step toward enhancing connectivity and easing mobility challenges in the Pune metropolitan region.
