Thirteen soldiers of the Pakistan Army lost their lives in a suicide car bombing that struck a military convoy in the Panjgur district of Balochistan on Friday. Several others sustained injuries in the high-intensity blast.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy, causing widespread destruction. Emergency teams responded promptly, and the injured were moved to nearby medical facilities by military helicopters.
No group has claimed responsibility as of yet. However, intelligence officials believe the attack may be linked to insurgent or militant factions that have previously been active in the province.
Military officials stated that a comprehensive search operation is underway in the area to track down those involved in planning and facilitating the attack. The ISPR emphasized that such actions would not weaken the morale of the armed forces. “Our soldiers’ sacrifices will not be in vain,” the statement read.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism. “We salute our brave soldiers. Their dedication to protecting the nation will always be remembered,” the Prime Minister said in an official message.
Balochistan has remained a troubled region for years due to ongoing insurgency and extremist activities. Strategic projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which pass through the province, have also been the focus of repeated attacks. The latest incident adds to a series of violent episodes targeting security forces and critical infrastructure.
This bombing is among the deadliest attacks on the Pakistan Army in recent months and highlights the persistent security challenges in the southwestern province. Authorities have increased surveillance and reinforced checkpoints in the region in response to the incident.
The nation has reacted with grief and anger, with many calling for stronger counter-terrorism measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
