Legendary Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg was cremated today with full state honours, including a 21-gun salute, following his accidental death in Singapore on September 19.

Garg, 52, known for his soulful voice and significant contributions to Assamese music and culture, tragically passed away after a scuba diving accident in Singapore. His sudden demise left fans, colleagues, and the music fraternity across India in deep mourning.

The final rites were held in Kamarkuchi, near Guwahati, after a second post-mortem was conducted at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. Garg’s younger sister, Palme Borthakur, along with close associates Arun Garg and Rahul Gautam Sarma, performed the last rites, while hundreds of fans gathered to pay their respects.

The cremation ceremony was solemn, marked by chanting of Vedic hymns and a 21-gun salute by the Assam Police, a tribute reflecting the state’s recognition of Garg’s immense cultural impact. State officials and prominent personalities from the fields of music, cinema, and politics attended the event, honoring the late singer’s legacy.
