Ahead of the Dussehra festivities, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday issued a stern warning to miscreants, urging law enforcement agencies to take strict action to ensure peace and harmony across the state. The directive comes in the wake of recent incidents of unrest and inflammatory slogans in Kanpur Nagar, Varanasi, and Moradabad.
Dussehra, celebrated as the victory of good over evil, is one of the most significant festivals in Uttar Pradesh. However, recent communal tensions have raised concerns about potential disruptions during the celebrations. Addressing senior police officials, CM Adityanath stressed zero tolerance for any attempt to disturb public order.
Strict Enforcement and Vigilance
The Chief Minister directed authorities to use advanced surveillance, including video footage and social media monitoring, to identify troublemakers and swiftly take action against them. “There should be no compromise on peace and law enforcement,” he said. FIRs should be filed promptly, and strict investigations launched, including attaching properties of those involved in unlawful activities.
He also mandated reporting from core group meetings to ensure effective coordination among district police and administration ahead of the festival. “Preparation is key to ensuring the safety and harmony of our citizens,” he remarked.
Focus on Women’s Safety
In addition to maintaining law and order, CM Adityanath emphasized the importance of women’s safety during the festive season. He directed the police to implement strict accountability measures for crimes such as molestation, chain snatching, and acid attacks, with responsibility assigned from police station level to Police Response Vehicle (PRV) units.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to Mission Shakti 5.0, a state-wide initiative aimed at strengthening women’s safety and empowerment. “Women’s security is non-negotiable. Mission Shakti will be enforced with full dedication during the festive period,” he said.
Addressing Recent Unrest
The warning comes after incidents in Kanpur, Varanasi, and Moradabad sparked unrest following inflammatory slogans and gatherings related to the “I Love Muhammad” controversy. These incidents have heightened communal sensitivities, particularly during major festivals.
CM Adityanath made it clear that attempts to disrupt peace will not be tolerated. He stated that past administrations had, at times, overlooked such incidents, but his government would take decisive action. “The days of leniency towards rioters and troublemakers are over. Law and order will be enforced firmly,” he said.
Preparations for Dussehra
The UP government has increased police deployment in sensitive areas and ordered special patrolling during festival days. Public awareness campaigns and coordination with local communities are also underway to ensure peaceful celebrations.
As the state gears up for Dussehra, CM Adityanath’s directives send a strong signal that Uttar Pradesh is determined to uphold peace, safety, and harmony during one of its most celebrated festivals.
