A coordinated terrorist attack on the Federal Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Peshawar left at least three security personnel dead and several others injured on Monday morning. The assault, carried out by three suicide bombers accompanied by armed militants, targeted one of the most sensitive paramilitary installations in the provincial capital, triggering intense gunfire and emergency security measures across the region.
Coordinated Attack During Morning Routine
The incident unfolded shortly after 8 a.m., when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the main gate of the FC compound. The blast instantly killed three FC personnel stationed at the checkpoint and created an entry point for accompanying militants. According to officials, two additional attackers attempted to breach the compound from a side entrance while opening fire on duty personnel.
Security forces responded swiftly, engaging the militants in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. Both armed attackers were eventually shot dead before they could advance deeper into the compound. Authorities later confirmed that all three attackers had been neutralized, preventing further casualties and enabling a rapid containment of the situation.
Casualties and Emergency Response
The explosion and subsequent firing left more than a dozen individuals injured, including FC personnel and civilians in the vicinity. Emergency teams transported the wounded to Lady Reading Hospital, where medical staff declared a state of emergency to accommodate the influx of patients.
A clearance operation was launched immediately after the firefight, with bomb disposal squads sweeping the premises to ensure no additional explosive devices were planted. Security around the cantonment area and other sensitive installations in Peshawar was also heightened following the attack.
Authorities Suspect Militant Involvement
While no organization has yet claimed responsibility, security officials believe the attack bears the hallmark of militant groups operating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly those known for targeting military and paramilitary facilities. The pattern of simultaneous suicide bombing and armed infiltration reflects tactics previously used by regional insurgents.
Senior police officials praised the FC personnel for their timely response, noting that a much larger tragedy was averted due to their swift action. Investigators are conducting DNA tests and analyzing recovered weaponry to establish the attackers’ identities and operational network.
