1 July,2025-The First Year Junior College (FYJC) admission process for the academic year 2025-26 commenced across Maharashtra on Monday, witnessing a strong response from students statewide. As per data released by the School Education Department, more than 40,000 students confirmed their admissions through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) on the first day itself.
The allotment list for CAP Round 1 was made available early in the day, enabling students to check their allotted colleges and proceed with the confirmation process. By the evening, over 40,215 candidates had successfully locked their seats online — a notable increase compared to the first day of admissions last year.
Approximately 2.3 lakh students had registered for FYJC admissions this year, seeking entry into Class 11 across major cities like Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, and Aurangabad. Pune received around 85,000 applications for nearly 56,000 seats, while Mumbai saw over 1 lakh students apply for about 90,000 available seats in its junior colleges.
According to officials, the admission portal functioned efficiently, with minimal technical interruptions. The majority of students were able to complete the required steps — including document uploads and final seat confirmations — without significant difficulty.
Among the academic streams, Science continued to attract the highest number of students, followed by Commerce. The Arts stream also recorded steady interest, reflecting a shift in student choices toward careers in humanities, creative fields, and public services.
While leading colleges in metropolitan areas saw higher cutoff percentages, several lesser-known institutions also reported good intake numbers in the first round. Authorities noted that students were making broader and more strategic choices, beyond just the top-ranked colleges.
Candidates who have confirmed their allotment in Round 1 will not be eligible for further rounds. Those who wish to wait for a preferred college or were not allotted a seat in this round can participate in subsequent rounds. The deadline to confirm admissions under the first round is July 3, 2025.
The School Education Department has urged students to complete their admission formalities on time and avoid last-minute delays. Junior colleges have been instructed to provide necessary assistance for document verification and help desks for technical queries.
With over 40,000 confirmations on the opening day, the FYJC admission process has made a robust start in Maharashtra. The smooth rollout of the online system, combined with high participation, reflects growing confidence in the state’s digital education infrastructure.
