4 July, 2025-Pune has been recognized as the Robotic Surgery Capital of India, with Lokmanya Hospitals leading the advancement of robotic medical procedures. Dr Narendra Vaidya, Chief Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon and Managing Director of the hospital, announced the milestone, highlighting the city’s rise as a national leader in robotic healthcare innovation.
According to Dr Vaidya, Pune has recorded over 12,000 successful robotic joint replacement surgeries, making it the highest in the country. This significant achievement places the city ahead of other major metropolitan centres in the field of precision surgery.
“Pune is now setting the standard in robotic surgical practices. The adoption of this technology has transformed patient care, and we are proud to lead this progress,” said Dr Vaidya.
Lokmanya Hospitals has developed a dedicated Robotic Surgery Centre equipped with advanced systems that enhance surgical precision. These procedures are known for their high accuracy, reduced recovery time, and fewer complications compared to traditional methods. Surgeons at the facility utilize artificial intelligence and 3D imaging to plan and execute surgeries with exceptional precision tailored to each patient.
The increasing demand for robotic-assisted procedures has also attracted patients from across India and abroad, particularly from countries in the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Pune’s emergence as a healthcare destination for robotic surgery is further supported by the city’s infrastructure and availability of skilled professionals.
In addition to orthopedic surgeries, the hospital has expanded the use of robotic systems to other departments, including urology, gynecology, and general surgery, signaling a broader adoption of the technology.
Dr Vaidya also emphasized the importance of training and knowledge-sharing to further strengthen India’s capabilities in this field. Lokmanya Hospitals has taken initiatives to offer specialized training programs for surgeons across the country, aiming to build a nationwide network of robotic surgery expertise.
Healthcare authorities and industry bodies have acknowledged Pune’s role in revolutionizing surgical care through technology. Support from professional associations and policymakers is expected to accelerate further developments in robotic healthcare delivery.
With a focus on innovation, accessibility, and quality outcomes, Pune is now seen as a model for integrating advanced technology into mainstream medical services. Lokmanya Hospitals’ contribution, led by Dr Vaidya, marks a significant step in shaping the future of surgical treatment in India.
