Samsung launches Galaxy Watch8 series with AI features, new design and antioxidant tracker

Samsung Galaxy Watch8

In a significant development in wearable technology, Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled its latest Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Ultra models at its annual Galaxy Unpacked event. The new series marks a pivotal advancement in digital health and fitness tracking, featuring a redesigned chassis, advanced AI-driven software, and — for the first time in the industry — an integrated antioxidant tracker.

With the wearables market becoming increasingly competitive, Samsung’s latest offering aims to redefine smartwatches as health-focused personal companions rather than simple accessories. Notably, the antioxidant tracker, a world-first innovation, is designed to analyze oxidative stress levels in the body, enabling users to monitor how environmental and lifestyle factors are affecting their aging and overall health.

The Galaxy Watch8 series incorporates Samsung’s new AI Health Coach, an enhanced system that not only records physical activity and sleep data but interprets it to deliver personalized fitness routines, recovery advice, and wellness tips. The sleep tracker has also been improved, offering users deeper insights into sleep quality, snoring patterns, and recovery cycles.

The design of the Watch8 is noticeably sleeker than its predecessor, with a thinner frame, refined rotating bezel, and a more seamless edge-to-edge display. The Ultra variant is built with a titanium casing, featuring added durability suited for outdoor and high-performance use. Both variants are powered by the new Exynos W1000 processor, which offers faster performance and up to 40 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Samsung also highlighted the Watch8’s compatibility with its larger Galaxy ecosystem, including integration with the Galaxy Ring and enhanced support for Samsung Wallet, SmartThings, and Galaxy AI. These additions enable users to control smart home devices, make payments, and even receive voice-based wellness insights — all from the wrist.

A key focus of the launch was preventive health monitoring, a field in which Samsung appears to be positioning itself more aggressively. With existing features such as ECG, blood pressure monitoring, and blood oxygen sensors, the addition of the antioxidant sensor further aligns the Watch8 with medical-grade health tracking tools. The antioxidant tracker, according to Samsung engineers, can provide data to help users adjust their diet and lifestyle habits to reduce cellular aging and inflammation.

“With the Galaxy Watch8 series, we are ushering in a new era of personalized, AI-enhanced health tracking,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “This innovation reflects our commitment to empowering users with actionable insights about their health, all in a stylish and durable design.”

The Galaxy Watch8 will be available in 40mm and 44mm variants, while the Watch8 Ultra will be available in a single 47mm size. Pre-orders begin this week globally, with general availability set for later this month.

The launch comes at a time when wearable manufacturers are racing to differentiate their offerings through biometrics and AI integration. Analysts suggest that Samsung’s early move into antioxidant monitoring and AI coaching may give it a competitive edge in 2025’s rapidly evolving health-tech landscape.
