Radhika Yadav, a 21-year-old national-level tennis player, was shot and killed at her residence in Gurugram’s Sushant Lok on Thursday. Her father, 49-year-old Deepak Yadav, has confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody. The incident has shocked the sports fraternity and triggered widespread public outrage.
According to police officials, the incident occurred after a heated verbal altercation between Radhika and her father escalated unexpectedly. Deepak Yadav reportedly used his licensed firearm to shoot his daughter inside their home. Law enforcement authorities have recovered the weapon used in the crime, and a detailed forensic investigation is ongoing.
Deepak Yadav, a well-known businessman in the Delhi-NCR region, is reported to have earned around ₹17 lakh per month. He owned several properties across Gurugram and Delhi, including residential apartments and commercial establishments. Despite their financial affluence, sources suggest the family was dealing with long-standing internal tensions.
“A murder case has been filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused has confessed and will be presented in court,” said a senior police officer. “We are also examining his mental state and past family interactions as part of the investigation.”
Radhika was widely regarded as a promising young athlete. She had represented Haryana in multiple national tournaments and was preparing for an upcoming championship. Coaches and fellow players described her as dedicated, hardworking, and full of potential.
