July 11, 2025 — A customer at Pune’s legendary Goodluck Café was left stunned after reportedly discovering a piece of glass in his bun maska. The incident, which quickly gained traction on social media, has raised fresh concerns about food hygiene standards at even the most established eateries.
The customer shared that while eating at the café, he bit into what he initially assumed to be a piece of ice. However, on closer examination, it turned out to be a sharp fragment of glass. Fortunately, no physical harm was reported, but the alarming nature of the find has led to widespread public concern.
Goodluck Café, located on Fergusson College Road, has been a popular destination for food lovers since 1935. Famous for its Irani-style bun maska, keema pav, and caramel custard, the café is a household name in Pune’s culinary scene. Following the viral post, officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) confirmed that they had taken note of the complaint. “We are treating this matter seriously. A team will inspect the premises and collect food samples for testing. If any lapses are found, strict action will be taken,” a senior official from the PMC’s Food Safety Department stated.
The café’s management issued a brief response, expressing regret over the incident. “We are sincerely apologetic for the inconvenience caused. Our establishment maintains strict hygiene practices, and we are currently conducting an internal review to determine how this could have occurred.”
