Goa Records Over 54 Lakh Tourist Arrivals in First Half of 2025

Goa tourism 2025

Panaji, July 21, 2025 — Goa witnessed a record surge in tourist footfall during the first half of 2025, attracting over 54 lakh visitors between January and June, according to data released by the Department of Tourism. The state recorded 51.84 lakh domestic tourists and 2.71 lakh international travellers, marking a significant milestone in its post-pandemic tourism recovery.

Officials stated that this rise represents one of the highest six-monthly tourist inflows in the state’s history, driven by enhanced connectivity, strategic promotional campaigns, and renewed interest in Goa’s diverse offerings. Compared to the same period last year, the number of domestic tourists has increased substantially, while international arrivals have also shown a steady upward trend.

“This achievement is a result of sustained efforts by the department to diversify Goa’s tourism portfolio and promote it as a year-round destination,” a senior tourism official said. “The focus has been on cultural, heritage, wellness, and eco-tourism, along with traditional beach tourism.”

Tourism experts noted that resumed charter flights, especially from Russia and European countries, played a key role in boosting foreign arrivals. Additionally, special events, including music festivals, heritage walks, and food carnivals held earlier this year, have drawn large crowds and extended average tourist stays.

The state’s hotel and hospitality sector has reported increased occupancy rates, with both budget and luxury accommodations witnessing strong demand. Popular destinations such as Calangute, Baga, Palolem, and the heritage-rich Old Goa areas remained top choices among tourists.

The economic impact of this growth has been significant, with local businesses across hospitality, transport, retail, and services sectors reporting higher revenues. Tourism remains a vital contributor to Goa’s economy, accounting for nearly 16% of its GDP.

Despite the positive momentum, experts have urged the government to prioritize sustainable tourism practices to prevent environmental degradation. Concerns over overcrowding, waste management, and the impact on local communities have resurfaced amid the rising numbers.

Authorities have assured that steps are being taken to address these challenges through infrastructure upgrades, regulatory reforms, and better coordination among departments.

With the peak travel season approaching later this year, the Tourism Department expects overall visitor numbers to surpass previous annual records if the current trend continues.
