One person was killed in a bomb explosion outside Madhyamgram High School in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Monday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred near the school premises under the Madhyamgram police station area. The victim, identified as a resident from another state, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Barasat Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Superintendent of Police Pratiksha Jharkhariya confirmed the explosion and the casualty, adding that a probe is underway. Police teams cordoned off the area immediately after the blast and began forensic examinations.

West Bengal Food and Supplies Minister Rathin Ghosh visited the site and assured that strict action would be taken once the investigation is complete.

The blast has triggered concerns over public safety and security near educational institutions. While no students or staff were injured, parents and local residents have urged the administration to step up vigilance and deploy additional security measures.

Authorities said efforts are being made to trace the source of the explosives and identify those responsible. Security has been tightened across sensitive areas of North 24 Parganas, with instructions issued to strengthen surveillance around schools and public places.

The investigation is ongoing.
